<VV> Camshaft Gear Question

I notice in Clarks catalog there are different part numbers for "1964-69 All (except 65-69 140 PG) C786X" and then "1965-69 All 140 PG C786XP".

What is the difference?

Would one be able to tell the difference if buying a used one that had no history (tranny it came with originally)?

What if a 140 w/ 4-speed had a cam gear from a 140 PG installed...what would the first hint that something wasn't right?  Or would it even be noticeable?
