At one time, someone sold rubber side moldings that had enough magnetic  
content to stick tightly to the side of a car - Unless you have too much bondo  
there! You could put them on when you are worried about parkers and remove them  
when safely located. The rubberized face kept them from hurting the paint  
surface. I wouldn't know where to start to look for them - except, maybe Google?
