<VV> rack and pinion steering?

Good question, Dennis. I'll be watching this thread to see what sort of
advice you get, since I've been considering a modification like this for
my own car. But be advised, that this really is a serious modification
in itself. The Ford manual rack and pinion, as used in the Pinto and
Mustang II is the one I'd try to use, due to its simplicity and
availability. Don't worry about using a Ford part, since these were made
by TRW, an American company and are a respected commodity in the
performance aftermarket.

You'll have to make up two mounting brackets for the rack, and the
steering shaft itself will become a two-piece with a universal joint, to
match the angle on the input shaft, but if you can handle this sort of
fabrication, you should do well. Consider your gas tank clearances
carefully.

Looking forward to what others may advise....

Mel

Subject: <VV> rack and pinion steering?

Is there a rack and pinion steering assembly that would fit a '64 Monza
without serious modification?
Has this been done? do you know of references?
Thanks.

Dennis
