Still hoping to find part numbers available at flaps that work on a 66 late
vert--or are the suppliers the only source? thanks

Well - The suppliers are the easier source. None of the regular FLAPS parts
is a bolt-on. On both the front and the rear, the tubular part that the lower
mounting bolt goes through is specific to the vair. They can be pressed out
or in, depending on the brand of the shock. Or the mounting holes in the
trailing arms can be drilled out and washers added to center the mount. Then there
is the issue of correct valving. Valving of the shock depends on load on the
wheel, and the position of the shock mount in relation to the wheel. There
are also travel issues. On early models the travel at droop must be limited or
handling may be compromised. The lates are less sensitive. The temptation of
inexpensive replacement shocks will continue to drive folks to "adapt" other
shocks. In reality, if you don't push your car that hard, almost anything
that can be bolted on will work. If the shocks on the car are really dead - as
in no resistance to movement, anything you get will be better. - Seth Emerson
