<VV> Gas filler neck

Dave Lynch writes about the difficulty of attaching the filler pipe and vent
hose. My buddy Pete Koehler attaches the filler and vent hoses to the tubes
and the tank first on the ground and somehow crams the assembly all up thru
the hole in the fender. I've never been able to accomplish this feat myself
and getting my big hands up in there later is damn impossible. I have
finally figured out an easy way to do it. The "stock is" guys will cringe
but I simply get out my sawzall and enlarge the hole in the inner fender to
as far as I can without cutting something "important". Now there is a big
opening you can see into and get your socket into to tighten everything up
after you install the tank first. No more crawling under the car with foot
long extensions on the sockets and one arm up to the shoulder trying to
attach and hold everything in place. You simply sit on a short stool and
work thru the fender well. This opening is unimportant as you don't see it
with the tire installed and the hose clamp area is normally exposed to the
road and moisture anyway. I suppose you could cut a metal patch panel and
cover the hole later but why?
