James and others:
Just came in form the garage, I have been dreading this but I am SOOOOO HAPPPPY I went ahead shook off my lack of confidence and did this anyway. I removed the valve body from the transmission and methodically took it apart, just as the Shop Manual says. By the time I reached disassembly of the low drive regulator valve sleeve, sure as s**t I look down on my shop towel and here lies a broken e-clip. I not entirely sure where it was, I am assuming in on one the grooves somewhere. ANYWAY, I am stuck on step 7 page 7-35 of the 65 shop manual. I can't figure out how to remove that pin to the TV valve components and get that out of part off the valve body. Once I get that apart, I'll order my new parts and put everything back together.
Any more tips on reassembly would greatly be appreciated.

STOP. EVERYONE OF YOU GUYS ARE SO VERY COOL. FROM KENT DUNCAN IN TOPEKA WHO I CONVINCED TO BUY A PARTS CAR ON MY BEHALF TO JOHN WINGLE OF TAUNTON, MA WHO CALLED ME OUT OF THE BLUE IN OVER 20 YEARS TO HARRY YARNELL WHO SENT ME FREE SHROUDS, TO MATT NALL, JAMES DAVIS, SMITTY AND EVERYONE ELSE, THIS  CLUB  IS  AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU KIND CORVAIR GURU'S FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE AND KNOWLEDGE WEALTH!
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW GRATIFYING IT IS TO SHARE, STRUGGLE AND CONQUER CHALLENGES THIS OLD CAR GIVES US.

OK how about the 65 shop manual page 7-38 Fig 7-E11 (same exploded
view) and page 7-31 for the tool use.. You can use the "E" clip from

a Hardware store or Lowes/Home Depot. It is 5/16 of an inch and a
pain to install down in that small compartment. You will also need
the two gaskets for the transfer plate and the valve body. For some
strange reason, Clark's sells an "E" clip replacement kit
consisting
of everything you need. I know as I always carry one in the
UltraVan. I have had chance to use it several times, though not on
my UltraVan.

The "E" clip is usually broken when there is a vacuum leak to the
modulator. The lack of vacuum drives the transmission to full
pressure and when coming to a stop the sudden full pressure on the
valve brakes the "E" clip.
