has anyone used a crank gear offset key to end up with the same results as
a
140 pg crank? i know they do it to chevy sixes to get a low end torque
sometimes. anyone tell me if its really a bad thing? how much? 2? 4?
which direction? i want to get the best i can out of a 164 engine with 110
heads , with a powerglide. this will go in the rampy. i will be using the
otto parts OT10 cam.
this kind of stuff is confusing me now...so if i cant get answers i may
just
go with stock setup and hope for the best.
cheers , tim colson

Hi Tim,
Please stop and reconsider why Chev used a retarded cam on the 140 w/PG. You
do not have that same situation at all so why would you want to use the key
for that reason? And if you should use such a key you should use it on the
cam and not on the crank because of the difficulty of, and heavy press work,
removing and reinstalling a cam gear.

You don't want to retard the cam at all. Your reason for advancing the cam
might be grounded in the fact that stock cams had a built in advance of about
5 degrees and IF the Otto cam is ground straight up you might want to
duplicate the stock advance. I'm not familiar with the OT10 so maybe it already has
the advance built in.
