if a quick grounding of the negative terminal starts it up , i would  
strongly suspect the capacitor ,maybe points..but i doubt it.  i put a  modern 
"orange drop" capacitor in place of the old wax paper one in mine. i  think the 
value should be .15 @ 500 volts or more..it is under the rectangular  metal cover 
on the combustion air blower with the points.  run a piece of  paper or thin 
cardboard thru the points to clean them.if they have a sharp point  on them the 
capacitor caused it.  replace both.(unless you want to risk a  chance filing 
them)
