All: So what is your opinion on the longevity of CD's burnt from the
camar's memory card by the likes of Walgreens/CVS/Walmart etc? Better? Same?
Worse? Or yet to be proven?

Thanks,
	James Rice

PS: Over 30 yrs ago when the SCCA was transitioning from near stock to
modified production cars (ultimately going to today's "production based tube
frame racecars) there was a truism that you didn't race cars, but raced bank
books. The auction side of the car competition as exemplified by B-J (and
many others...B-J are the only ones on TV) is parallel, and again proves
there are lots of people with more dollars than sense. How many under
privileged kids could you invest a college education on for the price of
some of those cars? Someday there will be an accounting.

Best plan is to keep multiple copies on multiple hard drives, stored in
different locations.

If you got a digital camera for christmas, and keep the photos on a
computer, then take a few minutes to burn them to a CD or DVD and take the
disc to work. Do this every few months. If nothing else, now you have
photos of Corvairs to show off to your coworkers :-)

That is a really good idea but there is another step that should be taken.
Many 'home burnt' CDs to not have an infinite shelf life ... it can be
limited to as little as 2 to 5 years. It would probably be an idea to
choose the photos one most wishes to keep and print them on paper and keep
in an album ... with a second copy to be kept elsewhere in case of fire or
hurricane. Keep some prints of everything for insurance purposes.
