Cute - Movies are just Movies, Ken! - LA, while not as laid back as
Northern California, is not too bad. I've driven Boston, Chicago, Washington DC,
Orlando, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Seattle and more. There is traffic, though, but
not as bad as a few years ago. (A recession will do that!) When traveling
around in SoCal, I tend to drive "around" LA, rather than through, and there are
lots of routes around the area. One tip, if you want to be thought of as a
"native" in the LA area, call the freeways out with a "The" in front of their
name. As in: "Just take THE 101 north to Ventura." or "I drove THE 605
around LA to get to San Diego."

There is probably more to do and see in that area than any other place in the
world ... the real question is 'How does the average person from a laid-back
mid-western town safely negotiate the volumes of traffic and the wild
drivers
that populate the area?' :-)
