Look, I really appreciate everyone's input, no matter if it got off topic or not; that's why this message board exists. So if it goes from this specific product experience, to ZDDP content, to reclaimed oil in the 50's to sludge and DeSoto's, it doesn't really matter. Its just interesting to get a cross profile of experiences and opinions.

To reiterate, I bought a car that I have no idea how it was maintained prior to my ownership. I know I have likely over 130k miles on this tired engine. I don't want to pull the engine to fix something that may just be a tight or tarnished ring. I know I have a possible ring leak on the drivers side bank of pistons, I have oil spitting out the drivers exhaust manifold. I was advised awhile back, that I may be able to rid the ring problem if I put an additive into the engine and run it for awhile, flush and dump, and put some high quality oil, and a decent filter on. I was at the store, researching and looking at these additives, and was curious to see if anyone could shed some light on which is the best, if at all.

I also understand, thanks to most of you, that the detergents in modern engine oils may be just enough to alleviate a sticky ring. I have no idea if I have sludge buildup or not, I guess I could find out by pulling the pan too. But I just haven't decided to do that just yet. I get a little spooked, when we bring to light, that these additives have a potential of causing more grief than necessary. Which may just lead to just change the oil and forget about it. But I struggle with that because I'd hate to put on new muffler and deal with oil spitting into the exhaust and causing smoke and stink.

These additives, don't do a very good job, describing their content or what they do exactly. I am leaning towards Rislone because it appears this product is specific to the crankcase. The others seem more like gum build-up, tarnish remover in fuel tanks and fuel lines, especially berryman b-12, its a cocktail of solvents, acetone, alcohol, toulene, etc.

So, thanks to all, I enjoy being apart of VV. Responses to this are optional.
