When doing this take the time to put in an inline fuse to avoid a lot  of

Well - Maybe. If you are just using the "power outlet" for other  things, 
like feeding electronics or charging the cell phone, determine what load  it 
might see and "fuse" (or circuit breaker) it to your contentment. If you will  
actually be using the cigar lighter, don't bother with a fuse. The heat load for  
the actual element will pop about any fuse you put into it. The high load is  
what creates the heat to light the cigar - or doobie, whatever you are
