Yeah, models have disappeared from the local store but there are still 
the hobby shops - for the time being anyway.  That's where I go for 
supplies and the occasional kit.  I picked up the last iteration of the 
Corvair model from WalMart for $5 a few years ago (when they were still 
selling models).  I hate Walmart with a passion but I was weak and 
bought 3 or 4 of them.

On the other hand, you can get kits and supplies off the internet that 
you never had access to back in the day.  You don't get to hold them in 
your hands first but you're not at the mercy of what the local store 
ordered either.  It's a hobby that is, at a minimum, changing its 
demographics.  And then there's old ebay.  You can get stuff there too.  
But there you're at the mercy of dopey bidders and greedy sellers.  Not 
always a pleasant place.
