<VV> Balance Point

Hey Brian, Two things to consider on the balance point issue. Whether
or not you have a drivetrain with the alternator
and starter left on the assembly. The starter especially effects the
balance point. Some folks feel that removing both
alternator ( for clearance of rear frame rail ) and the starter for
less weight makes drivetrain removal much easier if
you are attempting a one man project. I would highly recommend one of
the Harbor Freight or Northern Tool
tranny jacks with your own wooden cradle fabricated to accept the
drivetrain. Although Ted Fahrenthold and I have
done many DT removals with nothing more than a 2 1/2 ton floor jack
and a 2"x 12" x 24"-36" board on the lift plate of the floor jack,
It was MUCH eadier using Jim McLott's Tranny jack and cradle. Terry
Kalp has a setup with a metal cradle that he custom fabricated. Now
of course we ALL know that "your balance point" may be different !!! <GGG>
