<VV> Corvair Museum

Some footnotes:  <i should bet smitty first, but....>

the CPF is managed by some great Corvair folk -- Clark Hartzel, Pete Cimbala 
and Dave Newell  with help from many others.
ALL VOLUNTEERS.   They do a great job and try hard to make the CPF the best 
it can be.  The CPF is more than just the museum, although, like the 
Communique,  that is what people see.  Corvair Perservation -- saving unique 
Corvair history, is a important part of what they do.  For example, We 
acquired some interesting blueprints recently and are also working on a 
Canadair engine.

Some CPF artifacts,  notably the Corvair Powertrain, as seen at dealerships 
in the 60s, is on display at Grice Museum in PA.  We have tried to get a few 
other artifacts displayed there and at other museums.   At Detroit, we 
discussed trying to set up a travelling exhibit that could be moved from 
museum to museum.  Still a possibility.  a 60 an 69 (5999)  and the 
Powertrain with various bill boards would be a nice exhibit.  Ypsi is the 
base museum and exhibits the Super Monza amongst other exhibits.

Most museum has an excess of donated vehicles to display.
It cost money and time to assemble an exhibit -- and you need somewhere to 
display it once assembled <chicken and the egg syndrome comes into play 
here>

Ypsi is "home"  but it is out of the way  -- btw:  Is Southern Illinois 
south of I-80 or south of I-70 ?  Gets pretty sparse the further south you 
go.  few good buildings to house a musuem.  As I drive around town,  I eye 
the vacant buildings wondering if it is big enough,  in a safe enough area, 
utilities not too high etc.   I live in central illinois  -- south of James 
but north of I-70.

We are looking for long term display for 5999 and the Fitch Sprint as well 
as other items.  May have a place for the Sprint for 6 months to be on 
exhibit in a notable museum  if it is ready in time. If not,  an alternate 
Sprint <not one of mine this time>  will be lent to be part of the 
exhibit -- another volunteer.

I would like to see a library of sorts for all the various documentation, 
magazines, posters, and other literature that has been collected over the 
ages.  When the museum was in VA,  i was interested in the cars on exhibit. 
Now, I would love to see some of that literature, on display, not for 
research purposes.

It has been an interesting debate. I've picked up some interesting notes, 
some ideas.   The CPF board meeting just got more interesting.  I think 
(know?) there is more thoughts under the covers of some of the posts to VV. 
Some have major impacts.  But that's politics.

If you know of a museum that may be interested in exhibitng 5999, the Sprint 
demonstrator,  or other CPF owned artifacts,  including any of the above, 
let me , Clark or Pete know.  We have asked before, and am asking again.

now this volunteer is going to weed his garden because work, family, and 
rain have keep me from that for too long.  The weeds are almost as tall as 
the roses.  sigh.
