<VV> Syncing the carbs on 110 / Mileage problem

Stephan....you engine is already running / driving...
 
Get it warmed up
 
Remove air filter assy.   
 
Disconnect drivers side linkage
 
put Unisyn on left carb....
 
turn thumbscrew to get ball near a center line....not critical!
 
Without touching anything...  lift Unisyn off of left carb and place  on 
right side...is ball in SAME place?
 
#2  SO  you've got an oilbath....   ???    Take it off... will add 2-5 
mpg....  Streets are PAVED!!  you  certainly do not need it!

paper as  a feeler gauge on the right carb idle screw.  I put the  
paper  in, got it taunt - not tight, and tried to screw in the idle  
screw 1  1/2 turns (clockwise) per the Basics book.  If that means 540   
degrees (and clockwise) it ain't happening.  The screw stops at  360.   
And now....???
