Ron,

The rules for the Mobil Gas Economy Run were much more strict about average speed, and took place over days of driving in different conditions, not just a couple of hours over deserted roads like most Corvair Econoruns.

BTW it isn't the owners making the claims it is the organizers of the events that tabulate the MPG.   I was navigator on the Iowa mini Econorun in a 61 PG sedan, got over 40 mpg no cheating, but a lot of coasting.
