<VV> Engine wont start

I would bet the Pertronics ignition was fried. I was setting my timing and had turned the engine over with the coil wire off and that or something I did while working on the time put an end on my Pertronics. I learned that if I mess with anything with the spark plug wires I put my points plate back in. It only takes a few minutes to switch over and you cant hurt the points set up. I`m not sure exactly what I did that fried the system. It would be helpful if some of you with thorough knowledge of all the do`s and dont`s would explane what is safe and whats not as for Pertronics ignition and disconnecting any of the wires while there is power to the distributer. I believe what I did was take #1 wire off to hook up timing lite with ignition on. Anyways the pertronics failed from then on.
