<VV> White Smoke - was basics

JR...

EXACT same symptoms/problem on a 'customers' car Friday night, as he was trying to pick it up and drive it home. After two floats in the same carb and a top gasket, we fixed it. Only we tried to let it run so we washed the cylinders, and filled 1+ qt into the crankcase - then had to drain/change the oil/filter.

He'd driven it Thursday and all was good. The customer was my brother's, however he was at the Myrtle Beach show! SOMEbody had to fix it and get the guy home. He thought it was safe, as would I, so he took a 2 hour taxi ride to get there, i.e. stranded himself. No other way home. Luckily, no plans with my own family that night.

We shook hands, he headed off... screamed at him... "No lights". Got that semi-working well enough (in the dark no less) to get him home.

This was a newbie owner as well. He's the 2nd owner, 33k mile original motor... HAD to save that engine. Hopefully, my efforts will help maintain us another Corvair owner.Barry > From: hmlinc at sbcglobal.net> To: FrankCB at aol.com; ScottyGrover at aol.com> Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2008 20:33:57 -0500> CC: virtualvairs at corvair.org> Subject: <VV> White Smoke - was basics> > Started the convert (140) today after a several month nap (the car, not me). > Ran rough - sounded like a miss on the right side.
