Frank - it sounded like a one cylinder miss and I looked into the engine compartment expecting to find a loose (or possibly chewed) plug wire. That was not the case. The right side secondary (and possibly the primary) was (were?) spewing fuel. Raw gas was coming out of the tail pipe.

  JR,
When too much gas enters the combuation cahmber for the amount of air that is present, you don't have a certain percentage burning COMPLETELY and the remainder burning NOT AT ALL. You get PARTIAL combustion of much of the gas which generally gives BLACK smoke out of the tail pipe.
However, if ONE chamber gets NO spark, then the gas in that chamber will not combust at all and can end up going out the tailpipe as light colored vapor.
Frank "partial to FULL combustion" Burkhard

Anyway, the point was that "white smoke" can be too much gas. More gas than
can be burned in the cylinder(s).
