JR,
    When too much gas enters the combuation cahmber for  the amount of air 
that is present, you don't have a certain percentage burning  COMPLETELY and the 
remainder burning NOT AT ALL.  You get PARTIAL  combustion of much of the gas 
which generally gives BLACK smoke out of the tail  pipe.
    However, if ONE chamber gets NO spark, then  the gas in that chamber will 
not combust at all and can end up going out the  tailpipe as light colored 
vapor.
