Frank asked:
<Snip>
1)In the 65 Corvair I have with the auto tranny, the rearend has a dip stick
to check the gear lube. Is the 65 the only one that had that?

2)Can the Rear End Be Changed With out Dropping the Motor and all?
<Unsnip>

Craig replies:
The '64 and '65 models were the only ones with a differential dipstick.

Yes, you can change the differential without dropping the entire power unit.
You will have to pull the driveshafts, transmission support, and strut rods
and then lower the front of the power unit so the transmission or both
transmission and differential can move forward and down. You'll also have
to remove the starter, heater hoses, and access the three torque converter
bolts. Most folks agree that it's actually easier to remove the entire
power unit and then separate the diff, trans, and engine while it's out.
