Yes ... a worn out distributor, (and, in a good distributor body, worn-out points, breaker plate, condenser and etcetera).

If the bearing in your distributor becomes badly worn, the sparks will occur all over the place, and you will certainly get rough running.  I had a distributor in which the bearing was worn-out, and, for good measure, the drive gear was loose on the shaft.  What a joy that was.  A replacement, (from one of the Corvair vendors), with two bearings rather than the original one made a world of difference.
