That is because under the lens of the "LED Bulb" are actually 3 LED 
chips (possibly on the same substrate) all wired together and sized to 
give equal light output from each chip. Red is one of the natural colors 
for LEDs. In the last few years they just perfected the blue LED which 
completed the color triangle to be able to produce "white" light from 
LEDs. Yellow and green have existed for quite some time.

Odd, because I have LED conversion bulbs for several of my MagLite
flashlights, and they all show white light from each LED (three on some
sizes of flashlights). I've even seen amber LED's, on semi-truck trailers.
I conclude that LED's don't have to be red.
