His point is well taken. Silicon is a LOT closer to what sand is than silicone. At least as far as physical properties are concerned.

If you use silicon, you'll have to pour sand into the MC and it'll clog 
things up. 

Incorrect!  Sand, even quartz sand is NOT silicon, but rather silicon
dioxide.  If you are going to be abrasively and pedantically sarcastic (pun
intended), it behooves you to also make sure you're right!

BTW, you just "flunked" Earth Science 101 (Rocks For Jocks)!
