I had a fresh idea.
It seems to me that we have several great vendors and parts suppliers for the Corvair, many of which support us with the obvious and advertise in the monthly rag.
To organize in a database (and maybe this has been in the past) a group of businesses, organized by state, that CORSA members have had a good experiences with.
Specifically, businesses that warrant a good practice and quality work. These businesses could be chromers, auto body techs, alternator/generator rebuilders, detailers, media blasters/strippers, machinists, upholsterers, mechanics (willing) and the like sort. Basically, service orientated businesses with bents on classic cars.
What this "list" would provide members is at least a starting point to finding services to help keep our corvairs alive. To get on the list, each chapter would submit to CORSA a list of reputable businesses that others members have had good fortune with. CORSA could maintain the list, maybe even an online searchable database available to us through the website? (we've heard that before, a positive comment, not sarcastic).
Granted its not going to be "perfect" for everytime for everyone but again at least a starting point.
For example, when I look for a soda blasting service to blast by car, you can't necessarily find that person/business in the yellow pages. I mean its not like you look under blasting and just find someone that does that. Its like you have to hunt for the people and that takes time, resources and energy. This "service" list would greatly aid other members in the quest for good honest quality derived businesses.
I want a chromer, and know there are ten to twenty of them in the metro Milwaukee area, but which one is GOOD? It would be a shot in the dark for me.
I know a guy that rebuilds starters, solenoids, alternators and generators, he is pretty good. I want to share or tell others about this guy. How would I do that?
food.... I mean, ...air for thought.
