Because the weight of the car when the body is moving slightly faster
than the wheel (or is trying to), sort of like trying to stop the car
with your hand, the car's weight is on the 'trailing" side of your hand.

So, the 'pressure is off' the front, leading shoe, and on the trailing
shoe?

Just thinking out loud to see it in my head.
