Alan,

I see the problem with the pilot bushing. You had the 5 speed, and all 
those had pilot bushing troubles! ggg

 From the web link you gave :

"The van is very solid with no obvious rot. The engine is down on 
compression on one cylinder, but a new cylinder and piston are with the 
vehicle. This one is fitted with the 2.4 litre, flat 6 air cooled engine 
and 5 speed manual gearbox. This is the ultimate "Scooby Doo" van."

BTW, many people here are looking for that special gearbox.
