Been there done that, it's no contest.  The '65-'66 turbo heads are terrible.   I eliminated the vast majority of pinging by using different heads on a couple of turbo engines.   I gave the turbo heads away...  after removing the thermisters.   I couldn't logically think of any good reason to ever run them on anything.

Likewise those smog heads... same chambers, just as bad.


You skeptical guys doubt it if you like.    But if you use 95 heads and cut the gasket surface a tad to reduce the squish area (and improve charge turbulance) you will become happy.

...don't forget to recurve the distributer since the combustion chambers will be more efficient and you won't need so much initial advance.    24 degrees will become a memory.
