The direct 12V actually comes from the yellow wire on the solenoid, when it is energized.   The wire fom the start terminal on the switch engerizes the solenoid and when the plunger moves back it pushes the disk which makes a conection to the big battery cable and the disk also makes a connection to the terminal the yellow wire goes to as well as the windings in sht starter..
