Ah !  That's the difference that I didn't remember, because I used the
threaded inserts and thought they were generically called helicoils.

The helicoil is actually a spring that resembles a thread ?

Now that I realize my mistake, I see it was a very clever design, I just
never used it !

After all these years, it's all so clear !

The Helicoil is an open coil similar to a spring.  The other inserts are

sleeves that are threaded on both the inside and outside.  The picture
of 
the head looks like it's the sleeve type to me, not a coiled wire. RonH
