Many folks who have electric pump (not I) remove the mechanical, put a
plug
in the hole, and reverse the plumbing to the carbs - side to side - so
that
it goes around the front of the engine rather that the rear. Some with
electric pump only use it at cold start up and then turn it off and drive
on
the mechanical one. There are safety issues with an electric pump if it
does not shut off in a crash.

Also available is a neat "Dummy" pump internal. If you are happy with your
electric pump installation, either take note of JRs note above on the
possible safety issue, or add the pressure interlock. And if you want to remain
with stock appearance, you can take the mechanical pump apart and replace
the internal body with the "dummy" piece. All your fittings are in the same
position, the fuel just goes into the "pump" via a stock fuel line then
turns around and exits via the stock outlet direction. It was a cool idea for
those who want to appear stock, but feel they need the help of the electric
 pump.

Remember, also, that adding the electric pump changes a basic parameter
of the fuel line from under the fuel tank - where most of the electric pumps
are (and should be) mounted - all the way to that fuel pump inlet fitting.
Those lines are now under fuel pressure, the fuel is no longer being
"sucked" from the tank to the rear of the car. That means the hoses, both the
hose around the electric pump, and most importantly the connecter hose just
over the left rear wheel, should be in PERFECT condition and equipped with
positive clamps.

Be sure to check this. Corvairs should be cooled off with air, not Halon
and Purple K!
