Hi Frank,

Thanks for the advice.

The system is intact (as far as I know) and I just moved the compressor as
required

Jim,

The only way to keep out air and the accompanying moisture is to open
up the system in a perfect vacuum! Otherwise, when the system is restored,
it has to undergo a long period of time at near perfect vacuum using a
special A/C vacuum pump to make sure ALL the air/water vapor is removed
BEFORE adding any refrigerant. If your system has any pressure in it, I'd
advise NOT opening it up to the air.

Be careful if the system is still pressurized! Crack one of the lines
and slowly loosen it -- if it starts hissing, look around and make sure
there aren't any EPA Nazis around and let it leak out... when all the
pressure is gone, undo the hoses. NOTE: SEAL THE ENDS OF THE HOSES -
TAPE, PLUGS, WHATEVER -- YOU DO NOT WANT AIR AND MOISTURE TO GET INTO
THE SYSTEM WHILE IT'S DISCONNECTED!!!! Do the same to the
compressor... If you let the system depressurize slowly, you won't blow
all of the oil out...
