<VV> Knocking and Octane

I read Bill Hershkowitz's posting on knocking and water injection and
thought I would ask about a related question, octane. As an experiment, I've
tried 87 octane in my 1965 110/4. I haven't noticed any knocking when
driving normally, including on the highway. The only consequence I can
report is a short moment of dieseling when I shut off the engine. Am I
asking for trouble?
