<VV> Oil pressure warning light

Guys,
A problem just cropped up on my daughter's car. The oil pressure warning light is suddenly coming on - more so at idle, more as it warms up. However, if the engine is shut down, the light won't come back on immediately. Otherwise, it runs fine.
The engine oil has been kept at the proper level - and isn't thinned out by gas. I put a new sender on last Fall.

I wouldn't expect a pressure problem to come on so suddenly - and haven't had the opportunity to put a gauge on it yet. There shouldn't be anything occluding the pick-up - I had that off and know it's clean inside. I am also certain it's not a piece of RTV causing problems.

Any ideas? Could the sender be bad? Could the pump have gone suddenly bad? What about the pressure relief valve spring - could it have broken? What about the checkvalves in the alternator adapter?

I am away all day - but will answer any questions when I next log on.

Thanks,
Andy K.
