<VV> Cam profile WAS noisey cam

As this operational noise is a common condition with that particular cam it is not so likely the noise is the fault of the engine assembler. We all know that mechanical / solid lifter cams have a slight ramp at the beginning of the profile to take up the lash ... we hear and expect that slight operational noise at that part of the engine cycle. Some even like it :-)

Cams ground for hydraulic lifters have no such ramp. A check ball, that allows oil to enter under engine pressure, closes to make the lifter / follower solid under load / lift conditions. As there is no lash in the design there is no slight operational noise. When that check ball / spring fails, the lifter clicks loudly ... Some of us have probably heard that in the past :-) But if the cam profile is radical enough the lift will start before the ball has completely seated ... which would produce that faint click which is reminiscent of a solid follower / lifter.

So, no fault of the builder ... And no real problem to solve. But, if one just can't stand the noise the only answers are to replace or regrind the cam.

there was no dirt or metal in this motor. all super clean , new oil and
filter.i spend most of my time cleaning parts here. worst part of the job
is cleaning parts and painting shrouds etc. i have a separate "dirty room"
here just for cleaning. it has a parts washer, carn cleaner cans , and a
sandblast cabinet. i have a second cabinet waiting for installation for softer
metals only. so clean is me!
after talking with others in the car hobby around this area , i wonder
about metal hardness rockwell factor. not sure i want to spend money finding
out what i already know. i have heard stories after asking , about cam ,
and standard transmission parts going away soon because of hardness issues.
next is to get any recourse for your hassles....(dreaming?).
