My Grandmother Had a 50 Fleetline Chevy 4-door until the mid-1960's. It is

likely the first car I ever drove (illegally, of course). It had the
reverse pattern Powerglide P-N-D-L-R - You had to be very careful going
for low
gear!! --But at least it had a "PARK" setting. unlike some other cars!

With the fastback design, my friends and I called it "The Stone-age
Stingray!"

Seth,

My first car was a '51 Chevy woodie station wagon. Deluxe. It had been
my grandfather's car, then my father's (sort of), then mine. The "wood"
paint on the exterior--it was an all steel car--had been painted Earl Scheib
blue by the time I got it, but the wood interior was stock. It had many
optionsfor the time; turn signals, radio, Powerglide and a clock. The
Powerglide wasn't fast, but very little cold beat it the first 50 feet off the
line in Low. The three seats were great for the cross-country and track teams
and our weekend adventures--take the spare tire out of the well behind and
below the third seat, remove the drain plug, fill with ice and drinks and
go to the beach. "Pass a cold one up.............."
