Be Careful Chet. Unfortunately you live in a state where it's nearly impossible to own firearms, especially handguns. And when times get tough, these are the things that begin to happen. And even if you do own a long gun for hunting, if you took a shot at someone you'd probably end up in prison for life.

People get brave when they know that there's about a zero chance that a homeowner can own a gun in a particular area. North Carolina doesn't have that problem. I've not locked my doors in the 10 years I've owned my house. The signs that says "Protected by Smith and Wesson" go a long way.

And if I see someone coming on my property with the intent to commit a crime, I will open fire. My wife owns a handgun too, and knows how to use it.

In your case I would recommend adding on secure locked storage: since the economy shows no signs of picking up, incidents like this are bound to get more numerous.

And since you have nearly a zero chance of getting a handgun permit, those aluminum softball bats work pretty good. A neighbor of mine down the road used on on her meth-head son-in-law's head when he got out of hand. Sheriff and EMS came, no charges filed. Your mileage in MA may vary.

Hank
