Dave,

There will always be some loose ones - because those are not at TDC when 
both valves should be closed.  Adjustments are to be made at TDC.

Do you have a LM Chassis/Shop manual?  Start at item # 27 on page 6-36.

Actually I drove the car yesterday about 14 miles and when I had gotten home 
thats when I had noticed it the most. The knocking definitely was coming 
from the left side of the engine. So today i removed the valve cover and 
noticed that no matter the postion of crank 1 or 2 lifters was almost always 
loose. Im just kinda weary about tightening it down without knowing a little 
more...

The lifters are hydraulic. DRIVE the car several miles and see if they shut 
up.

If not, they can be adjusted cold or hot - but that will bring about a 
somewhat biased discussion.
