Use of a "bottom tap", which will cut threads all the way to the bottom 
of the hole (they don't "start" in just a drilled hole -- you have to 
use a regular tap first, followed by the bottom tap) -- anyway -- if you 
cut your threads all the way to the bottom of the hole, it allows the 
threaded rod repair to be more effective.

You can make your own bottom tap by grinding off the pointed and tapered 
parts of a regular tap.

Someone out there may not know all this, so here it is ...
