Wait!

Did you just write that the distributor was NOT removed to replce the
harmonic balancer? Then why would it need to be rotated more than a few
degrees? Put it back to where it was originally (180 degrees back).

>Yeah- The trouble started when the harmonic ballancer split. We got a new one on there. I've checked compression by taking out the #1 plug and holding my finger over the hole until I get the puff of air and then I back the crank up by pulling on the fan belt so that it is just at TDC. Then I took the distributor cap off and checked to make sure the rotor was pointing at the #1 tower. The first time it was off by 180, so we pulled the dist. and rotated the shaft 180 and put it back in. The rotor was then pointing at the #1 tower. I've pulled the air cleaners off the carbs and rotated the throttle crossover and I could see clearly, jets of fuel from each carb's accelerator pump. I have not taken the plug out to check and see if it is wet. I'll do that tomorrow and recheck to make sure everything is pointing in the correct direction.
