I have always suspected that the Corvair's long demise, in addition to the  
PR headache of canceling the Corvair after 1966 as planned just months after  
Nader's fall 1965 articles and book, may have been based on GM's  contract with 
its aluminum supplier and others.  What renegotiations, if  any took place. 
after the spring 1965 cancellation decision?  Did the large  aluminum content 
of the Vega's engine result from GM's obligations?  Just  comment--no facts 
that I know of.
