<VV> carburetor problems?

It is not unusual to need to set the chokes (one push to the floor on the
gas pedal and gentle release) before turning the key on a "cold" engine. In
warm climates (although FL has not been that warm lately) and/or if the car
was put away "hot", it is possible for the gas in the carb bowls to at least
partially (maybe even completely) evaporate. In that situation, a couple
(3 - 4?) of pumps on the gas pedal with the key in start position (so the
pump is working) will usually bring the car to life pretty quickly.

Do you have some OTHER problem? Possibly. Is there a leak in the main fuel
line from the tank - such as at one or both of the rubber hoses that are in
that line? That is a fairly common situation and is generally cured by
replacing both hoses with modern materials which can stand up to today's
alcohol laden gasoline. Some (very few) have even experienced a crack in
that main (metal) line - or maybe there is a crack in that line which leads
to the LH carb?
