<VV> 63 generator noise

The generator on my 63 Spyder, after driving a while, starts making a  
whizzing noise that comes from the brushes. (their not worn out yet.)   Pressing 
against the brushes with a stick stops the noise.  I only hear it  at idle 
and even with the engine lid closed.  Any ideas folks??   Thanks! Mark
