To everyone who responded to me concerning replacing my spare tire (on the car not the waistline), THANK YOU!!
I bought a 185/80 R13 this afternoon.  It is close to the diameter of the 195/65 R14 tires on the Corsa.  It will allow me to get the vehicle to a station to get a proper fix and that is what I needed.  I did buy a new tire, since many of the alternatives I found were 40 years old and that is what caused my problem with my current spare.  In 40 years, I hope my Corvairs are still on the road, even though I probably won't be (I'll be 101 years old).  Again thanks to all who offered help.  This is a great group made up of great people.
