Time to admit a bit of self-interest here! I am a bodywork and rust
specialist, and for years I have been intending to write a small 'fix that
rust yourself' booklet, explaining how to make rust go away and stay away
once and for all. So now I have done, and it is called 'GOT RUST?'

The first car I did a full restoration on was my 1956 English Ford, in 1976,
and almost all of the places where I fixed the rust have stayed un-rusted,
despite the fact that the car has stood outside for over 20 of those 33
years in our HORRIBLE climate (Rad Davis has seen the car - I think he's the
only (former?) VVer who has, though!).

I have been thinking and philosophising about rust for most of the
intervening 33 years (I know, I know, it's very sad and I need to get out
more!), and I have come up with a number of methods which as far as I know
are unique to me.

I certainly don't know of any other professional (as opposed to hobbyist)
restorers who use these methods, because they are labour- (and so cost-)
intensive. It strikes me that rust is the biggest problem facing any old car
owner (except you Seth!), (;-))) and so I have done a small (8-page) booklet
that takes you through all the stages of fixing rust and treating and
painting it.

One of the two examples I use in the booklet is a Lancia Beta windshield
surround, and these are almost identical to a Late Model Corvair windshield
surround (in fact the reason I knew how to fix the Beta windshield was
because I have fixed Late Model Corvairs before).

The booklet has full colour pictures and a description of each stage of the
process, and I have put 35 of them on eBay.co.uk under my ID (sidevalve_it).
Here is one of the auctions, as an example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=360135445938

The price there is 3.99 GBP + 2.75 GBP S&H, but I am offering a VV special
deal price of $8.50, shipped to the USA in a board-backed, 'DO NOT BEND'
envelope (that's a discount of about $1 off the regular price). I showed the
partially-completed text to a prominent VVer a couple of months back, and he
said he thought the material was good and that I should consider making it
available to VV - and so I am doing!

If there are several of you who would like to club together and buy, say, 10
or 20 of them in bulk, there will obviously be a big cost saving on S&H, and
that will bring the unit price down to about $6, plus whatever it costs to
ship a bunch of them (not that much - S&H to the USA is quite cheap).

If interested please send me an email, and if you want to see more of our
work (we use our work as the basis for the text and pictures in the booklet)
there are detailed pictures on our website, www.westernlancia.co.uk

Cheers

Alan
