If someone was interested in a really 'original' restoration of a racing
Corvair, that was only to be used in short events,
drums all around are the way to go. But for any longer events that would
seriously overheat a drum setup, vented discs
are the only realistic solution that can save your car, perhaps your health,
too.

What Mel says is true - But it is trumped by the rules that everyone races
under. If you are running in normal SCCA road racing, the Corvair can run in
three different classes.
1) Improved Touring A class - Stock diameter drums (242mm=9.5in) are
required, no width is specified (hint, hint)
2) E / Production - Allows 9.5" drums all around. or 10.5" rotors all
around, but no four piston calipers.

3) Gran Touring 3 - Pretty much un-restricted

Also, in Vintage racing, most require OEM style drum brakes.

BUT - At Corvair Time trials - Run what ya Brung!
