This is why ALWAYS I recommend getting the installation instructions for
a/c, available from Clark's. You can't really do a very good install job of
a factory a/c system without them. I've lost count of how many I've
installed (after 8 or 9) but I ALWAYS refer back to the instructions every
time. "When all else fails, read the instructions" where have I heard that
before? (G)

Yes there is a "U" shaped reinforcement above the heater/a-c control panel
that must be cut. There is also a stablizing brace that is then put in that
goes from there to the cowl to help stablize the dash, now weakened by the
aforementioned removed reinforcement section.
