Heavy spark means heavy current draw.  Check the left heater hose at  the 
starter (just put a piece of foam or carboard between them at  first), check 
the horn and its relay (in the trunk on the left wheel  well and check the 
lights.  Headlight switch off?  Are all cables  (including pigtail leads) 
clean and tight at the battery?  Is the  little red insulator at the left frame 
rail melted or intact?  Do the  plugin connectors look melted or deformed?  
Once the the circuits that  don't go through the ignition switch are 
checked out use a multimeter or test  light to check each circuit at the fuse box. 
 And I have had personal  experience with the red primary lead from the 
engine compartment up to the  fusebox going bad and shorting out to the body 
due to abrasion (it has been 40  plus years).  Best of Luck
