Barry et al:
If you're so poor that you can't afford a DMM that costs $10 on sale from Sears or any number of supply stores, then you probably can't afford to work on Corvairs in the first place. Or is it instead that you were just so entranced by the cute babe across the aisle during the science class in high school and missed the sessions on measuring electricity?<GGGGG>
If you have a small enough drain, it won't light the headlamp enough to be visible unless you're working at night in the dark. Even a 1 amp drain will pull 48 amp hours out of a battery in 2 days which will usually keep the car from starting. So it doesn't take much of a drain to pull down the battery.

Frank "Voltmeter" Burkhard to the rescue! Now the poor man's version:
Tailights, brake lights, headlights, (one at a time), in series with the
battery connection. If you can light a headlight that way, you do have a
heavy drain somewhere.
